Bill Maher Rants About Our Overmedicated Nation
“New Rules,” Real Time with Bill Maher
Conversation with Michael Moore, Real Time with Bill Maher
Moore says:
One way to beat the system is take care of yourself. I found that just by going for a walk 30 minutes a day. And I discovered these things called fruits and vegetables which are … amazing. You don’t have to do a lot. I would say this to guys like me from the Midwest. We’re never gonna go on a diet or join an aerobics class or whatever, but if you just moved around a little bit, turned the TV off, and ate a few things differently … you could avoid the nightmare that awaits so many people once they enter the health care system.
The Decider, Maher’s stand-up show
Maher on Larry King Live:
We had this massive-the president signed into law this massive drug entitlement program, Medicare, because it’s important to keep our seniors high. And while we were debating this, which is going to cost trillions of dollars, nobody ever stood up and said, why are we so sick? Why do we need trillions of dollars worth of prescription drugs. And do you know what the top four or five prescription drugs are? They’re all anti-bloating medicines, antacids, digestive aids, all things to put out the fire in our stomachs from the poison we call lunch.
Maher in a Details magazine essay:
Let me start with a confession: I’m on the drug I’m writing about. That’s right, I’m on speed right now. You should see how fast I’m typing …
Of course, what I took could have been advertised on the news, since what I’m on is two Metabolifes. Metabolife, Metabolift, Xenadrine, Dexatrim, Acutrim, Ritalin, Dexedrine—they’re all types of speed, and they’re all legal. Two of these things give you quite a jolt, and the Metabolife bottle says you can take up to eight a day …
Americans love drugs, and they especially love speed. Coffee, soda, Jolt, Metabolife, No-Doz, Vivarin, Mountain Dew—it’s all about staying up to get back to work quicker, stay at it longer, concentrate better. Red Bull, of course, is also good for helping people stay drunk longer; their slogan is “It gives you wiiings!” Telling people, “Hey, you’ll be flying if you take our drug”—that’s legal, that’s fine, but let’s get the DEA to bust more cannibus clubs …
